Opening and Setting this Path:

Advanced Military Academy row from the Your Camp's Buildings table on the Construct screen

In order to open this focus path, you will need to research both Military Tactics and Weapon Design to 40. Once you have done this, the Advanced Military Academy will become an option for construction on your Construct page. This building will take 30,000 workers, 3,000 land, and 6,000 building supplies to construct. Once constructed you will be locked into the Military path. You cannot demolish your focus building, nor can you construct one of the others. Constructing this building will immediately open the abilities associated with this focus path.

Path Advantages:

Once you have constructed your Advanced Military Academy, you will be set on the Military Focus Path and will have the abilities that come with it. One of the primary things you will get through this path is a bonus in victory score. You will also be able to open the ability to build your own mechs and even send ones you buy on the market into battle. Only camp's on the military path can send mechs into battle, even if they are bought off the Trade Market, a merchant camp, or sent as alliance aid. Also these camps are the only ones who will receive any score benefit associated with mechs. Light mechs each award 1 point. Medium mechs are worth 2 points each. Heavy mechs are worth 5 points each. Beyond this, setting yourself on a focus path will open your level 3 ops missions, allowing you to make attacks on other camps targeted at their specific path. Your mechs will be constructed on the Garage page, as with any other vehicle.
